Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Community forum. Sorry to hear that you are unable to sign in to Windows Live Mail after you changed your password. Let's see what we can do. To isolate the issue, please reconfigure your account in Windows Live Mail and see if the issue will persists. Follow the steps below:

Note: Before removing an account, check that the messages you want saved are available when you sign in to the web version. If some of your messages are available only in Live Mail, export your messages before removing the account. See How do I import and export email, contacts, and calendars with Windows Live Mail?

Remove the account:

1. Right-click the account you want to remove, and then click Remove account .
2.Click Yes to confirm.

To add/re-add the account:

1.Open Windows Live Mail by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Mail , and then, in the list of results, click Windows Live Mail .
2.In the lower-left corner, click Mail .

3.Click the Accounts tab, and then click Email.

4.Type your email address, password, and display name , and then click Next .

5.Follow any additional steps, and then click Next .

6.Click Add another email account if you want to add more accounts, or click Finish to start using Windows Live Mail.

Let us know how things turn out.

Thank you!

Hi

Thanks for your quick reply but I have already tried everything that you suggest.

Perhaps my posting was not expressed clearly. I will repeat that the warning box comes up and if I just click on the 'X' to close it , then I am signed in and can access my mail.

I have two other computers and this problem does not occur when I use WLM on either of those so It must be an issue confined to this  lap top only.

As I said  it is merely an annoying problem and does not stop me accessing my account but I wish I could stop the warning box appearing.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. Since the issue only occur to your laptop, we request that you repair your Windows Live Mail. Follow these steps:

1. Click Start and on the Seacrh box, type AppWiz.cpl and then Enter.

2. Select Windows Essentials 2012, click Uninstall/Change .

3. Click Repair all Windows Essentials Programs.

If the issue still persists, it is most likely that this is due to Windows Live Mail related files that became corrupted. As additional troubleshooting step, please perform a clean install of the program. Clean Install is different from manually removing then reinstalling the program. This process has steps that would permanently remove all Windows Live Mail related files on the system giving you a fresh new state to work on. Please follow the procedure below :

Note: Before removing an account, check that the messages you want saved are available when you sign in to the web version. If some of your messages are available only in Live Mail, export your messages before removing the account. See How do I import and export email, contacts, and calendars with Windows Live Mail?

1. How to uninstall Windows Essentials via CMD line parameter .

2. Reinstall using the online installer found on this link .

Let us know how things turn out.

Regards,

Helene C.

Anyone out there can tell me how to overcome this issue.

When viewing your message list, click Ctrl-Shift-O for Options. On the Connection tab, click Stop signing in.

Hi Helene

Thanks for that but I have already tried what you suggest regarding the  'repair' but to no avail. I have also uninstalled via the CMD line parameter  and re installed from your link but unfortunately the problem still exists.

I have had another email from 'iFiredog' which suggests another method but as it is late night here in Uk I will try that out tomorrow

Thanks

Thank you iFiredog, your suggestion did  remove the problem but created another one. When you click on  the 'stop signing in' it does not allow you to sync with your contacts etc. so when you want to send new email or fwd an email then it will  not  suggest recipient when you commence to enter their name. So this  problem far out weighs  the original problem. Thanks anyway for giving me an answer

When you click on  the 'stop signing in' it does not allow you to sync with your contacts etc.

Yes - that's what signing in does. If you're not signed in, you see a default contacts list and calendar. When you are signed in, you see the contacts list and calendar associated with the Microsoft Account that you sign in with. Unless you often use the photo email function, there is no other reason to sign in.

So, sorry, I may have misunderstood your requirement:

...  by just clicking  the 'X' to shut the box I was able to read my mail. This is just a nuisance that I can do without.

I showed you how to get rid of the 'nuisance' of signing in.

Can you access your Microsoft Account by visiting https://account.live.com and signing in (maybe twice) with your email address and password?

When you click the right-most button on the Home tab of the ribbon in Windows Live Mail to sign in, you will have to enter the same email address and password. Selecting Remember me and sign me in automatically should do just that next time you start the program, so no sign-in window should appear.

If you see an error instead, this suggests that your credentials have to be re-established between client and server. Assuming that you have a mail account showing in the left-hand folder pane that uses the same email address and password to synchronize folders and messages between client and server, removing that account and then adding it back again should re-establish those credentials. This was the first step proposed by Helene.

It's unfortunate that you were trying this while Outlook.com was going through a bad patch, so it would be worthwhile to repeat the remove/re-add exercise now that the servers are allegedly behaving again.

Hi  Yes tried again removing and adding the default account but  still the nuisance persists.

Just to make it really clear, although the warning box opens to say that the email address and password is incorrect, please try again., I do not have to actually sign in, I just cancel the warning box  and my mail is accessible. It is clearly a glitch in the WLM program following the reinstating of my default Hotmail account.

Please explain when this 'warning box' appears and describe it in detail. Better still, take a screenshot of it, save it as PNG, upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder, right-click on it there and select View original. Right-click on the image in the page that opens and select Copy. Then paste it into your reply.

Hi

1. The warning box appears almost immediately when I open WML.

2. As it is a warning box it stays on top  of WML and does now allow me access to my messages.

3. I then click on either the 'X' top right corner  or on the 'cancel' button, it closes and I can the access my messages.  I have 5 different account on WML but it the default account which was previously suspended and reinstated with a change of password that causes this issue.

4. If I remove the default account and open WML without that account , the warning box still appears so it must be connected to the WML program on this computer and not the specific account. ( as I said in previous postings WML works fine on my other 2 computers)

I post a screenshot of the box. I have obscured my email address and photo for reasons of privacy

Thanks
